  WHAT & WHERE IS THE SERIAL NUMBER?  

The serial number is a number unique to each piano, by means of which it can be identified. Not all piano companies started numbering at 1 but at greater numbers, like 1000 etc, perhaps to induce the impression they had built more pianos than they really did.

On Schweighofer pianos the serial number is usually found on the left side of the bass strings, inside the case, close to the dampers. It is usually obscured be the music desk, which can be removed for an easier look. Here are a few examples:

It can also be right on the pinblock, at the bass strings end:

On much older Schweighofers, the serial number is written on the soundboard, like in this example:
